Biography
Originally from Carroll, Iowa, Tony went to ISU and graduated in Chemical Engineering, and later received advanced degrees from UNI and Oxford University. He worked for Deere and Company for 35 years, recently retiring to start his own firm called The River Coaching and Consulting, LLC, where Tony does executive coaching for senior level positions usually in the c-suite or one step below. Tony also authors a blog on LinkedIn called The River with over 3500 subscribers and has a website called www.therivercoach.org. He is a certified NeuroLeadership Coach, and has had Co-Active Institute training, and is a member of ICF and Institute of Coaching.
His passion for coaching stems from his experience at John Deere in developing leaders over 25 years, often coaching and mentoring leaders on a global basis. Tony has had an executive coach for over 12 years during his time at John Deere so knows the value of executive coaching firsthand.
Fun fact: Tony was the lead author of a bestselling book titled “Am I Doing This Right - Foundations for a Successful Career and a Fulfilling Life”. He began it as a COVID project in Feb 2020, later in 2021 bringing on two co-authors Matthew Mitchell and Jeffrey Kappen from Drake University, and today it has sold thousands of copies in US, Canada, Brazil, Germany, India, Australia, and around the world. Tony has spoken to colleges, universities, and businesses across the Midwest on leadership, managing change, personal development, and work/life balance.
Tony lives with his wife Sheila in West Okoboji, Iowa and has 3 grown children.
