The Science of Goal Setting

As Coaches, we know intuitively how important goals are for clients to achieve desired outcomes.

I imagine you use goals in your personal and professional life. There is good reason for that.

Goals have a profound effect on our motivation. They give us focus, a sense of meaning to sometimes meaningless tasks, and they can boost our confidence. Goals increase our level of effort, especially to persist during setbacks.

Forthcoming Change to ACC Renewal Mentor Coaching Requirement

As part of your continued professional development, mentor coaching plays an important role in helping you refine your skills and deepen your practice.

Beginning January 1, 2027, any new mentor coaching hours used toward your ICF credential renewal must be completed with a mentor coach who has earned the Mentor Coach Qualification (MCQ).

The MCQ establishes a clear global standard for mentor coaching, which helps ensure your experiences are consistent, transparent, and aligned with ICF expectations.

In July, you will be able to search for mentor coaches who hold the MCQ through the Mentor Coach Registry.

Any mentor coaching hours you’ve completed prior to January 1, 2027, will be accepted for your ACC renewal, even if your credential expiration date is after January 1, 2027.
