The Human Touch
I have never been more optimistic about the future of the coaching profession than I am right now.
I say this despite the never-ending barrage of change, disruption, technological advances, and fear-inducing headlines warning that artificial intelligence could wipe out entire industries.
Fortunately for us as coaches, millions of years of human evolution will not be so easily replaced. We are social creatures who crave belonging and connection. We seek to better understand ourselves and others. We long to create meaning in our lives.
Coaches will continue to be sought out as trusted, competent professionals to help clients navigate life, leadership, careers, spirituality, health, and other domains.
As coaches, we’ve witnessed the power of human connection over and over again.
How many times have you been in a coaching conversation, or simply practicing active listening, when the other person shares that this is the first time in a long time (or ever) they’ve felt truly seen or heard?
Your ability to be fully present with another human being, in service of their growth and potential, cannot be outsourced. The complexity of the human experience cannot be reduced to an algorithm.
What else separates us from machines? We have a heart capable of its own form of intelligence. Research from the HeartMath Institute shows that our hearts create an energetic field that communicates with others. We are all connected.
That is the power of human connection, something unique we offer our clients and the world as coaches.
As I reflect on the state of this chapter, I’m reminded of all the incredible individuals I’ve met along the way: those who saw the potential in me (even when I wasn’t aware of it), encouraged me, challenged me, and helped me grow as a person. Our chapter is full of talented, caring individuals dedicated to improving the lives of others, their communities, and beyond.
Join us this year as we reflect on and celebrate what makes us special: our ability to positively impact others through connection and relationships. Tap into the power of your heart and intuition. Bring forward all the innate qualities and intelligence you are capable of as a human being in service of others.
Together, we have an opportunity to uplift humanity. A noble cause worthy of a coach.
